A few months ago, Oracle officially confirmed the compatibility of Oracle Database 19c with Oracle Linux 9, particularly when utilizing UEK7 and a database patch version of 19.19 or newer.
The installation of OEL-9.2 on Virtualbox was a smooth and trouble-free process, with ample articles available to guide you through the installation steps. Rest assured, you can easily navigate through this process. For a helpful guide, check out this resource.
Installing Oracle 19c was bit more challenging than the OS installation. The pre-installation went fine and when installing Oracle encountered the below error .
Error in invoking target 'libasmclntsh19.ohso libasmperl19.ohso client_sharedlib' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/19c/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk'. See '/tmp/InstallActions2023-12-06_12-45-27PM/installActions2023-12-06_12-45-27PM.log' for details
I tried the below fix from Oracle support but it did not work.
The issue was finally resolved with a released one-off patch from Oracle.
Patch 35775632: PLACEHOLDER FOR STUBS.TAR PATCH FOR OL9 THAT FIXES BUG 33794281
The above patch is a small one that we need to replace the files under stubs directory under $ORACLE_HOME/lib directory.
After the above patch, the Oracle Installation went fine and I was able to create the database without any issues.
I tried installing the latest release of 23ai on OEL9 using the rpm package. It was very easy and straightforward. The details of the installation can be be found on my blog.
In this blog, I also explain how you can integrate it with Dbvisit Standby MultiPlatform (StandbyMP).
The benefit of this is that you can harness the latest features of Oracle 23ai while ensuring robust Disaster Recovery for your Oracle SE databases! Make sure you check it out. And, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me on LinkedIn.
