Oracle Support Extended for 19c and 23ai

The recent announcement from Oracle regarding their support schedule is something to applaud! Lets look at the updates to 19c and 23ai support timelines.

Oracle 23ai Support Extended 

The latest long-term release of Oracle 23ai now has the premier support until 2031.  This means that organisations can take advantage of new features from Oracle 23ai to innovate new applications and database enhancements with the assurance that they will be supported longer. 

Oracle 19c Support Extended

Oracle19c has been extended up to 2032 (Extended Support), and Premier support up to 2029.  

Extended support ensures that the current customers retain their stability and reliability with regular patches and feature sets. With November 2022 announcement of MRPs (Monthly Recommended Patches), this ensures customers can access recommended and well-tested patches monthly. This helps avoid longer wait times for the patches with RURs that were sunset as of Jan 2023.

On-premise customers and 23ai

23ai is currently available in OCI and for ODA. For on-premise customers, the 19c support extension provides an excellent opportunity for customers to retain their 19c and then plan for an upgrade to 23ai when it's announced for on-premise.

On-premise customers can begin trialling the FREE version of 23ai. You can read more about this in my 23ai Installation Blog.

ODA Supports 23ai

The announcement of 23ai support on ODA platforms means ODA customers can now upgrade/migrate from 19c and older versions of ODA to the new 23ai. I will note here also that the new ODA X10 is a great piece of hardware and now includes support for Oracle Standard Edition.  Refer to the link from the documentation on how licensing works for Oracle SE2 with ODA. Let's summarise the Oracle MoS note.

#1. Oracle 19c Premier Support ends in Dec 2029.

#2. Oracle 19c Extended Support ends in Dec 2032.

#3. Oracle 23ai Premier Support ends in Dec 2031.

#4. There are no updates regarding the Extended Support.

#5. Oracle announces the release of 23ai on ODA platforms.

We hope to see updates on the extended support for Oracle 23ai, and the eagerly awaited full release of 23ai on-premise.
